You need to micro focus adjust.Focus with confirmation. Its your focus confirmation on your camera. But I would be interested in someone else doing above with same on 5dsr to confirm. I think this lens should be a great lens. This lens should not have field curvature - its pretty long. If it shows try you other best lens - maybe its your camera mount off kilter - and see if the same behaviour ocurs. If 3) shows weakness on either side or field curvature - you likely have a decentred or bad mount on your camera or something. If 1) shows shaprness gradients you have a good lens If 2) shows sharpness gradients you have a great lens Really sharp lens on my 5dsr will be slightly noticable (can just tell roughly when focussed) when focussed.ģ) Check edges and notice whether there is side to side consistency. Sharp lens on my 5dsr will be noticable (you can pick the maximum focus setting) when focussed.Ģ) Then do a x 12. I think that you should you should use liveview to find out whether its the lens or the focus confirmation.ġ) First do a x 6. They should know that I can't email them several raw photos, and when I had a similar problem with a new Canon lens I purchased several years ago, they were more interested in me sending the lens to them so THEY could check it out, then trying to get me to send them photos, in a way that isn't possible in today's email system.Īnyone have experience in dealing with Zeiss when they bought a lens that wasn't what in the condition it should have been? My main point is I just want Zeiss to FIX the lens under the 3 year warranty (2 + 1 year for registering the lens online). This Zeiss is one of several that I own and actually the final lens I used for this shot was a Zeiss 100mm Makro, which I don't think is supposed to be as good of a lens as the Planar 135mm, but the 135mm wasn't cutting it. I used live focus to try to get a high-megapixel photo of a magnificent set of leaves on a tree in front of my house in October, brilliant red! I was combining all of the photos to make one high-megapixel shot and it turned out better than I thought, but NOT with the Zeiss 135. Yes, I have a 5DSR and I also have a 6D, of which I've tried both to get it to focus sharp. Ps: just saw that you have a 5Dsr - yes, more pixels less forgiveness.ĭoes this happens even shooting on a tripod or using shutter speeds at least of 1/250tth?ĭoes this happens even shooting on a tripod or using shutter speeds at least of 1/250tth?. I have this lens, and no issues whatsoever, on a 1Dx, 5D2, 6D2 and I believe I used too during a short trial on 5DR.Īt F/2 in short distances if or if you don't have steady hands even for static subjects, it will show OOF very quickly

I would not rely on the AF indication in the Canon body for any lens, even a Canon.ĪFAIK there is no way to calibrate the AF microadjust with manual lenses. Never had much luck with the green light. I always use live view to get critical focus. I also tried to send one image, and the single raw image was again too large. I even tried to send them what they wanted, but the email was returned because the email was too large.

I don't mind sending photos as I have quite a few and fortunately, Canon beeps when Zeiss lenses are in focus, BUT raw photos are so large, there is no way to email them to Germany from the U.S., or anywhere via any normal U.S.A.

I contacted Zeiss by email in late March and a couple of weeks later, they responded asking me for several raw photos taken with that lens along with an explanation of why I don't think the photo is sharp, plus the EXIF. Given this, I've NEVER been able to get a sharp photo, which is quite frustrating given that the Zeiss 135mm is supposed to be one of the sharpest lenses ever made!

I tried a few times to use it, but it's an odd length lens. A year ago, I bought a Zeiss classic lens, 135mm F/2 for Canon, as Zeiss was discontinuing the lens made for Canon cameras.
